Concert Overture in E major op. 12

Drafted in 1904, and orchestrated next year, Concert Overture in E major is Szymanowski’s first symphonic composition and does not in any way hint at the future author of Stabat Mater and Symphonie concertante. Although it is an imitative work (thematically and instrumentally almost totally dependent on the music of Richard Strauss, in particular his symphonic poems), its qualities as a repertoire piece cannot be denied, which is why it is performed quite frequently.
