Between 1911 and 1913 Szymanowski lived there with Grzegorz Fitelberg. Both friends found there excellent conditions for development – Fitelberg became a conductor at the Hofoper, while Szymanowski signed a prestigious contract with Universal Edition, supported by its president, Emil Hertzka. This where important concerts took place, featuring Second Symphony conducted by Fitelberg and Second Sonata played by Artur Rubinstein.
